The Zongo Hydroelectric Dam was inaugurated on 22 June in the presence of President Joseph Kabila and Prime Minister Bruno, as well as about 1,000 local people, representatives of private organizations and company employees. At the ceremony, the Congolese Minister of Water Resources and energy pointed out that the Zongo hydroelectric power station was the largest hydropower station built in the Congo in the past 30 years and had not only created jobs in the country, but also saved the country from the energy crisis.
The project has significant implications for the power system in western Congo, reducing the strain of the Kinshasa power grid on the capital and contributing to the social and economic development of the country. In addition to cutting the ribbon on the project, the president toured the plant, the control room and the dam. Introducing the project, he praised the plant's advanced technology, which promises to inject new energy into the Congolese economy. Construction of the 150 megawatt hydroelectric plant in southeastern Congo began in 2012 and has been under scrutiny ever since. The President of the Congo visited the project three times, and the Chinese Ambassador to the Congo and the Chinese economic and commercial counsellor to the Congo also visited the construction site several times. The project with China's Hengfengyou will also help the company expand its brand in Congo and other central African countries.
